Disconnect from a VPN connection. When you finish using your VPN connection, here’s how to disconnect from it: Click the Notifications icon on the right side of the taskbar. The Action Center appears. Click VPN. The Settings window appears. Click the VPN connection that you want to disconnect from; then click Disconnect. Close the Settings Fixed: Can't remote desktop through VPN - Plusnet Community As for file browsing, I think I'm set up purely to remote desktop. Certainly nothing new shows up in finder once the VPN has connected. The IT chap suggested that sometimes ISP’s restrict/throttle VPN traffic and this could be my problem, but if you successfully remote desktop over VPN with Plusnet then this can't be the case! RDM slow over VPN - Devolutions Forum when we are working from remote we use a VPN to our office and use RDM which connects to the SQL server database through that VPN. RDM is slow and unresponsive in that scenario. Explicitly the open/close of a session is lagging and sometimes it seems to time-out when closing a session and keeps the tab (empty) in RDM, which then cannot be closed anymore.

Aug 13, 2012 When to use Remote Desktop over VPN When to use Remote Desktop over VPNWindows has two major mechanisms for allowing remote users controlled, protected access on a server: the virtual private network (VPN) and remote desktop.
Doing the same at remote client takes about 4 minutes. Downloading the same file from our webmail server to the remote client takes around 40 seconds. I've seen similar questions about reading PDFs. These are very slow and choppy when scrolling. RDP seems very slow all round, but only when connecting through our firewall.
When you view PDF files in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader in a Terminal Server/Citrix environment, the display is slow to update over an RDP connection. This issue is particularly noticeable when scrolling through PDF documents that contain high-resolution images.
