This is my take on IPSEC vs. SSL VPN. IPSEC is an IP Security Protocol and uses 2 modes. Tunnel and Transport. Transport mode only encrypts the data portion of the packet. Tunnel mode encrypts the whole packet. If you use IPSEC on one end, you must use IPSEC
